About this Item: This is a Hand-knit Halter top made from purple acrylic yarn. The bottom edge of the top has a one by one ribbing For an extra tailored fit. The floral embellishment on the front is a hand quilted panel that had been discarded and was heading for the landfill.
Measurements (all taken laying flat): pit to pit: 16.5” center of neckline to hem: 10.5” length (underarm to hem): 8.5”
About the Process: I hand knit this halter top using purple acrylic yarn that I received a large quantity of secondhand. I’ve been holding onto This top for a while, because it was too simple on its own for me to sell, but I knew I would eventually find something to add that complimented the deep purple color.
Going through an estate sale one day, I found a single quilted floral panel that was in a pile of things to be thrown away if they weren’t purchased that day. Of course, I took it home and immediately knew it would be the ideal statement for this top. I carefully cut The floral piece out of the cotton square it was on and pinned it to the halter top, then pinned it again, then pinned it once more until I felt like the placement was perfect. I didn’t want to distract from the beautiful hand stitching that had already been done on the floral appliqué, so I used a coordinating green thread and blanket-stitched in the same style as the original artist all along the edges. Once it was secured to the halter top, I went in and added a few more small stitches along the inner edges of the petals to make sure the appliqué was extra secure and would not be damaged by casual wear.
After adding my hand stamped tag to the back of this top, it was done. “Violet Dreams” Is a collaboration between me and an artist that I will never know, but I am grateful to them for contributing this piece of art to the world and for allowing me to preserve it in a way that it can continue on with new life.
