This collar is made from acrylic yarn held with a strand of metallic thread to give a soft shimmer effect throughout the fabric. It is trimmed with a crochet ruffle and is stiffly structured so that the shoulders can hold their exaggerated peaks. It has a hook closure that, when fastened, adds an intriguing asymmetry to the collar.
this piece is named after one of the original gay bars in Birmingham, Alabama (where I’m from). Birmingham has come a long way in acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community, but The Quest was there long before those steps towards progression were taken. I remember being in the car with my conservative mother and driving by quest as a child and hearing my mom say that we needed to pray for the people who went there. As an adult, I saw one of my very first drag shows at The Quest during pride, and it was a very full circle moment for me. I made this collar in honor of that moment, in honor of no longer feeling like an outcast in your own hometown.
