About this Item:
This top is a secondhand "Velvet Moon” piece, labeled size large. It’s missing its material tag, but it feels like cotton to me. The pattern is brown and white gingham. The bottom panels have a slight ruffle and the top front panel has two subtle darts to make the fit extra flattering. Each side has two tie closures, making four total. This lens, a large amount of adjustability to this piece. The patch on the front is an upholstery scrap and the print is done in speedball fabric ink. It is attached with hand stitching all around the edges, using black embroidery thread.
Measurements (all taken laying flat):
pit to pit: 19”
center of neckline to hem: 19.5”
Length (underarm to hem): 21”
About the Process:
The “Scissor Me Timbers” print is a hand-carved original linocut. Since this is technically my Pride collection for this year, I wanted to carve a print in honor of that. I also wanted to lean away from the typical Pride related shirt prints like “sounds gay im in” and “love is love”, Not because there’s anything wrong with those, but I’ve just seen it too much and personally, it doesn’t appeal to me. But you know what does appeal to me? Vintage scissors. And you know what’s also super gay? Scissoring. So I looked at a bunch of pictures of vintage scissors and did a few rough sketches until I got it where I liked it, transferred my final draft to linoleum, and carved it out. Thus, the “Scissor Me Timbers” print was born. Pirates are also very gay. I hope you already knew that.
