About this Collection:

This piece—and this collection as a whole—is in commemoration and celebration of Ethel Cain and her most recent tour, during which she designed a billboard which read “Go see Ethel Cain or the Devil Will Get You!”, accompanied by her own illustration of the character Ethel Cain wielding a scythe. This billboard was in reference to the iconic sign near Montgomery, AL, which reads, “Go to church or the Devil Will Get You!”, and depicts a devil wielding a scythe. As someone born and raised in Alabama, Ethel Cain’s choice to reference this specific billboard brought me a lot of joy, especially since this was the first tour that she had a show in Alabama.

I decided it would be fun to honor the occasion by carving a stamp and offering free, live printing to everyone in the GA line for the shows i was fortunate enough to attend. I had no idea how popular this activity would be, but over the course of 3 tour dates (one in Huntsville, two in Tallahassee), I printed over 150 items, ranging from tank tops to napkins. I printed so many, in fact, that my original linocut carving melted from being in direct sunlight for so long.

When I got home, I had messages from people who wanted a print but weren’t able to get one while I was at the shows. Since my stamp was no longer functional, I carved a new one. I also carved a secondary stamp of the negative space in the illustration so that I could achieve the red and black design in the original billboard.

So, whether you’re here because you already got a stamp from me or not, this one will be exceedingly better than before. I’m also printing in my own home and not in a parking lot, so the ink is being properly applied and heat-set this time. It’ll last you a good, long time.

Lastly, (and I hope this is understood already), I am in no way claiming this design as my own. This is a carving I did of a design drawn and posted by Ethel Cain. I do not claim her art as my own and never intend to sell it as such. For this reason, everything I printed on site was offered for free, and I’ve built this collection using a pay-what-you-can system.

About the Pricing

The minimum price of every item in this collection is $5 so that I can cover the costs of materials, ink, linoleum blocks, and shipping supplies. I really want these items to be accessible to as many people as possible. So, if all you can pay is $5, great! If you can pay more than that, I appreciate it and will consider it a tip.

Other Information:

Each print will be similar but not exactly the same, as every item in this collection is stamped individually by hand using a linocut of my own creation.

This piece, like all of the others in this collection, is stamped on a secondhand piece of clothing. Due to this, please note that there may be stains or other flaws with the garment/cloth. By purchasing this product, you acknowledge and accept the above information.
