fragmented-mountain-necklace
Fragmented Mountain Necklace

The red stone in this necklace was found on Red Mountain, near Birmingham, AL, where red clay is a wildlife staple. I picked it up on a hike, took it home, cleaned it, and decided it was too pretty not to make it into a wearable art piece. Using mohair silk, I crocheted around the piece of stone, following its natural contours to highlight rather than distract from them. The frog seemed a natural addition to the piece, as he is also a found item, all alone until I picked him up. I set him in the center of the piece, climbing the mountain, just like I have been many times before. I used beads to achieve his central placement, then scavenged through some vintage jewelry pieces until I found the two figure eight pieces that frame the stone. All of the hardware is sourced second hand. Everything about this piece is one-of-a-kind.

From clasp to end, this piece is 15.5 inches long.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0896/7120/5147/files/049C75E0-34BD-4C3D-B4AD-6CCB82DD5B55.jpg?v=1769882889
